Buemi finishes fourth for Carlin in Macau
19 November 2006Carlin driver Sebastien Buemi has managed to clinch fourth place in an incident filled 53rd Macau Grand Prix today. Buemi drove a fantastic race from 12th on the grid, just missing out on a podium finish on his maiden drive at Macau. Team mate Maro Engel also managed a top ten finish, taking a remarkable 9th place after starting the race from 32nd.
It was a drama filled race for Sebastian Vettel, who stormed up the field to demonstrate his true potential around the demanding street circuit. Starting from the back of the grid, Vettel had managed to climb to 7th place by lap 13. However, an incident on the final lap with Ricardo Streit resulted in retirement for the German. Team mate Oliver Jarvis also dropped down the field on the final lap, after a fault with his car's exhaust seriously compromised performance. Jarvis managed to keep the car going to finish 15th.
Team Principal, Trevor Carlin said, "Today's race has seen a really mixed result for us. Sebastien Buemi drove an incredibly intelligent race for such a young driver and came so close to the podium on his first attempt at Macau. Maro drove a fantastic race to finish in the top ten after starting last. I think we proved we had the pace to win this event, if only we had started further up the grid.
"Oliver was doing a good job and Vettel was flying through the field having started at the back. Unfortunately, as is often the case at Macau, Vettel became involved in an incident on the final lap which effectively ended his race."
