Carlin Car and Driver Development evening a success
18 June 2009Carlin Motorsport's first Car and Driver Development evening got underway last night and was enjoyed by numerous drivers from across the country. The unique event, which focuses on car and driver improvement, featured live timing by TSL and driver tuition by GT driver and Carlin driver coach Aaron Scott, World Series driver and Monaco race winner Oliver Turvey alongside British F3 championship leader Daniel Ricciardo.
Following Carlin's first successful Development evening, the team are now taking bookings for the second event, which will take place on Friday 24th July from 17.30 - 20.00.
Despite fears - and forecasts - of heavy rain for the first event, the track remained dry throughout the first 2.5 hour Carlin Car and Driver Development (CCDD) session, allowing the drivers to get up to full speed fairly quickly. Supporting the team in its first CCDD session, were a number of loyal X-BOW drivers who already have a relationship with Carlin through the team's position as KTM X-BOW service partner. Happily though, the X-BOW drivers didn't have the circuit all to themselves, with a number of other cars including, Ariel Atoms, Caterhams, Porsches, a Lotus 211 and a Ferrari 360 F1 also on track.
The use of timing throughout the event gave drivers an excellent way to monitor their progress, and Carlin's three driver coaches were on hand to offer advice and 30 minute lessons to drivers. For those who required set up adjustments or different tyres pressures, Carlin's mechanics were also available to make changes throughout the session.
Speaking about the event Oliver Turvey said, "It was really good fun actually! I hope we were able to help people get more out of their cars and learn a few tips from us. It was great being able to help out drivers in such different cars - although I love the X-BOW, I'm hoping I'll be able to borrow one of those myself!"
Carlin commercial director Steve Hollman said, "Considering this was the first event, it went very well. The general feedback was extremely positive, and it was encouraging to see that the use of timing helped people develop their driving style rather than encourage rash driving. A big thanks to MSV and TSL for their help in organising the first event. We believe more than ever that there is a gap in the market for this kind of training event, and hope to see even more people and cars at the next evening on the 24th July."
