Carlin’s BRDC Formula 4 driver Ameya Vaidyanathan will also contest the EuroFormula Open Championship this season with the British squad. Vaidyanathan, who before last season was a complete novice to racing, will accelerate his development with a dual programme in the British series and the EuroFormula Open Championship.
Following the announcement of Carlin’s entry into the EuroFormula Open Championship last month, Vaidyanathan is the first driver to be announced in Carlin’s three car line-up. The championship, which uses the same F3 Dallara chassis with which Carlin have had so much success, will visit impressive circuits such as Spa-Francorchamps, Silverstone and Monza as part of an eight round calendar which visits F1 rated tracks around Europe.
Speaking about his busy 2016 programme, Vaidyanathan said, “Testing in the BRDC F4 car has gone really well, and power wise it’s made the transition to the F3 car much easier. I want to get as much experience as possible and completing both programmes with Carlin means I can combine both championships in the most efficient way possible. It’s going to be an exciting season and I’m looking forward to official testing getting underway later this week.”
Trevor Carlin added, “We’ve already completed a number of test days with Ameya as part of his BRDC F4 programme and what has become clearer than ever is his work ethic and drive to succeed. Ameya is working very well with the team and we’ve already seen some big improvements in his driving, so it makes sense to give him as much race experience as possible. EuroFormula Open offers a great package and fantastic circuits that drivers want to race on for the benefit of their future careers.”
The first official test of the EuroFormula Open championship will take place this week in Jerez from 25 – 26th February.
