Vaidyanathan remains with Carlin for 2017 season

Carlin is pleased to confirm that Ameya Vaidyanathan will remain with the team for a second season competing in the EuroFormula Open Championship. Vaidyanathan enjoyed a solid 2016 season which saw him take on a dual campaign in EuroFormula Open as well as the BRDC British Formula Three Championship. Starting as he means to go on, Vaidyanathan has already taken part in official pre-season testing at Barcelona seeing him set the fastest time by a margin on the first day and sitting comfortably in second on the final day of testing. Vaidyanthan joins previously confirmed driver Devlin DeFrancesco in the team.

Since taking up competitive racing in 2015 Vaidyanthan has been no stranger to multiple championships and cars. The Indian racer has taken part in the MSA Formula, BRDC British F3, Formula Renault NEC, the Formula Three Masters, EuroFormula Open and most recently the Toyota Racing Series in New Zealand. Vaidyanathan, a podium finisher in British Formula Three, became a regular top ten qualifier and finisher in the latter half of the 2016 EuroFormula Open season.

Following a strong end to his year Vaidyanathan took on a new challenge in the Toyota Racing Series New Zealand which has once again seen solid results from the 20 year old Indian racer. Vaidyanathan has already jumped back in to action having participated in the EuroFormula Open testing/winter Series which took place last week in Barcelona. Wasting absolutely no time at all in getting back up to speed, the Carlin man finished the first day of pre-season testing quickest and the second day comfortably within the top two – highlighting his great form and intent ahead of the upcoming season.

Vaidyanathan said, “I’m looking forward to being back with Carlin for the 2017 season and racing in the EuroFormula Open Championship again. It’s a really great platform with fantastic tracks throughout the year so I can’t wait to be back out there. Last year was a bit of a learning season for me to get to grips with the car and we had some strong results as the season came to a close. Pre-season testing last week went well and we know that we have the speed in the car so I’m looking forward to the next test at Paul Ricard where we can build on everything we’ve been doing up until now.”

Trevor Carlin added, “It’s fantastic to have Ameya back with us for a second season, he showed us real commitment and strong results last season; we know that he can take everything he’s learnt and continue with his great form to become a consistent protagonist over the course of the upcoming year. He’s already been racing in New Zealand this year and making sure that he keeps sharp which has definitely shown with his great pre-season form in Barcelona – where he was no doubt one to watch. We’re looking forward to continuing our relationship, enjoying strong races and seeing fantastic results from Ameya this season.”

The upcoming months will consist of two further pre-season test/Winter Series events held at Paul Ricard and Jerez before the 2017 season gets underway in earnest in Estoril at the end of April.
