Thunderhead Carlin Racing look forward to their home race this weekend as they take to the iconic and historic Silverstone. This will not only be the team’s home event, but also the home race for their talented trio of drivers as they line up in front of British fans on Saturday for the 4 Hours of Silverstone. Jack Manchester, Harry Tincknell and Ben Barnicoat will be the only complete British LMP2 line-up competing this weekend so have high hopes for trackside support as they participate in the fourth round of the 2019 European Le Mans Series.
The Thunderhead Carlin Racing team have already enjoyed two days of pre-event testing at the British circuit in changing conditions; a dry track during the first day offered a good amount of running while wet weather testing the following day allowed for the opportunity to test the Dallara P217 in the rain. The trio have also been using the break between races to their advantage and visited the Carlin base for simulator work to enable them to be best prepared for what will no doubt be a competitive weekend.
All three drivers have a good amount of experience at Silverstone; as one of the UK’s top racing circuits Manchester, Tincknell and Barnicoat have raced and tested in a wide variety of machinery around the 5.891 km circuit.
Following an impressive outing in Barcelona last month, in which they clinched their first top ten finish, the whole Thunderhead Carlin Racing Team look to continue the progress they have impressively made during their debut season.
Jack Manchester said, “I’m really excited to be back in the car racing at Silverstone this weekend – it’s a track I know well and one that I enjoy racing at. I definitely feel as though we have made good progress recently; our pace in Barcelona was pretty solid and we felt as though a step forward was made as a team. Our focus is to continue with that push forward and aim for another good result.
“We’re also the only complete British LMP2 line-up at our home event this weekend so hopefully we’ll have the support of the local fans – it’s all lining up to be a really exciting weekend for us.”
Harry Tincknell said, “Our home race is always something special and I can’t wait for Silverstone this weekend. I have so many happy memories spanning back to 2013 when I won the FIA European Formula Three race with Carlin on the WEC/ELMS weekend and made my Sportscar debut the following year here. We come off the back of our best result of the season in Barcelona. Jack had a fantastic start and Ben closed the race out really well so hopefully we can build on that and score even more points at the home of British motorsport!”
Ben Barnicoat added, “Barcelona was positive for us and we took a good step forward especially during the race despite a couple of things that were out of our control. Our test at Silverstone also went well but some tricky weather conditions made it a bit difficult to get a true read on our pace; if the true British Summertime rain makes an appearance, I don’t think we will be too disappointed. It’s a home race for all three of us, and the team too, so hopefully we can have a good event for everyone involved.”
The weekend schedule will see two free practice sessions take place on Friday before qualifying and the 4 Hours of Silverstone on Saturday.
