Carlin is pleased to confirm that British racer Joe Turney will join them this weekend at Brands Hatch for the opening F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford EcoBoost race weekend of the 2019 season. The 17-year-old racer already has an illustrious karting career behind him and now takes on his first ever race weekend in a single seater category.
Karting since the age of 10 Turney has already gained a strong reputation and multiple achievements along the way of his karting career. In 2016 he was the Junior British Champion and a World Karting Finalist. By 2018 he was the X30 British, BNL European and World Champion – impressively becoming the only British karting driver to clinch 3 titles in the same year.
Turney will make his single seater racing debut with British team Carlin who have won the British Formula Four title in every season they have competed (2015, 2016 and 2017) with former alumni Lando Norris, Max Fewtrell and Jamie Caroline. Turney will join team mate Zane Maloney on track from Friday, when the duo will take part in official testing before qualifying and three races on Saturday and Sunday.
Turney said, “I’m delighted to be joining Carlin this weekend and excited to have my first car race. I’ve already done some testing with the team which has gone well and I feel like I’ve made some good progress thanks to the advice and guidance I’ve received so far. Zane is a really strong benchmark to have as a team mate; hopefully we’ll be able to deliver some good results for the team this weekend at Brands Hatch.”
Carlin Team Principal Trevor Carlin added, “Joe is a really exciting new talent straight out of karting. While this weekend will be a big learning curve for him, we’re delighted to give him the opportunity to show some of his potential in an F4 car. With Joe and Zane we have a really exciting, young team and look forward to seeing them make their F4 racing debuts on one of the UK’s most exciting tracks.”
