Carlin is pleased to announce that Ameya Vaidyanathan joins their FIA Formula Three European team for the remainder of the 2017 season. Vaidyanathan, who currently races in the EuroFormula Open Series, will run a dual programme as he joins the FIA Formula Three team in Spa-Francorchamps – a circuit that he has already brilliantly claimed victory at this season – to complete a four-car squad.
Vaidyanathan joins the team at the mid-point of the 2017 season with five rounds of ten remaining – starting off next weekend with the impressive Spa-Francorchamps. In his EuroFormula Open car Vaidyanathan has already tasted victory around the Belgian circuit this season, taking a strong and talented win while breaking the tow to those behind. No stranger to the success this season he has secured a further two podium finishes as well as fastest race laps; all of which see him sitting third overall in the standings at the mid-point.
Vaidyanathan already has experience of the Formula Three car following a debut in the Zandvoort Masters of Formula Three last season. Using the experience around the Dutch circuit as a chance to get to grips with the Volkswagen Dallara Carlin car Vaidyanathan will be looking to use all his experience as he heads towards the second half of the 2017 season which incorporates classic circuits Spa-Francorchamps, Zandvoort, Nurburgring, Red Bull Ring and Hockenheim.
Joining Carlin’s race winning FIA Formula Three European Championship team, the Indian racer will be running alongside his BRDC Formula Three team mate from last season Lando Norris as well as Jehan Daruvala and Ferdinand Habsburg.
Vaidyanathan said of the announcement, “I’m really looking forward to dovetailing my EuroFormula Open commitments with the remainder of the FIA Formula Three season with Carlin. The team has been consistently strong this season, and with three fast teammates in Ferdinand, Jehan and Lando, I’m grateful to have such a massive opportunity to learn and improve as the year goes on. The field has proven to be uber-competitive, but I’m determined to contribute to the team’s overall success. “
Racing director Trevor Carlin added, “We’re thrilled to welcome Ameya to our Formula Three team for the rest of the season. He has been a real asset to our EuroFormula Open team and has really impressed us with his dedication, determination and results from the season so far. It’s going to be a whole new challenge for him in the FIA Formula Three Championship but we know from experience that he will be putting everything in to the upcoming weekend and rest of the season. We look forward to see what he can achieve in the competitive field.”
Vaidyanathan will join Norris, Daruvala and Habsburg on track for a pre-event test on Tuesday 25th July before the weekend at Spa gets underway consisting of practice, two qualifying sessions and three races.
