Bogle Steps Up to INDY LIGHTS with Carlin

February 9, 2021

Jay Howard Driver Development driver Christian Bogle will join Carlin for the 2021 Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires season.

The 19-year-old has raced in Jay Howard’s team for the last three seasons and will graduate to Indy Lights this year from the USF2000 Series.

Louisiana born Bogle raced in the 2020 Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship, claiming a season best sixth-place finish at Road America. Bogle also competed in the series in 2019, following a debut open-wheel racing season in the US F4 Championship in 2018.

Bogle is the latest signing to Carlin’s resurrected Indy Lights team, which returns as a tie-up with Jay Howard to form the top rung of the Jay Howard Driver Development team. The team’s Indy Lights cars will be run out of Carlin’s Delray Beach workshop in Florida, be operated by Carlin personnel and run alongside the team’s INDYCAR operation.

Speaking about the season ahead, Bogle said, “I’m super excited to get the 2021 season underway. The Indy Lights car is a big step up but my experience in the car so far has been amazing. I know with the support of Carlin and Jay I will have everything around me to spend the year learning and growing as a driver.

“Carlin have a great reputation in the Series so I know I’ll be in great hands. The calendar looks fantastic and I can’t wait to get the season underway.”

Trevor Carlin added, “We’re pleased to welcome Christian to the team for the 2021 season and also thank Jay for entrusting us with this next step in Christian’s career. The Road to Indy is a fabulous programme and the Indy Lights Series is the perfect next step for drivers wishing to climb the motorsport ladder.

“The IL-15 will be a big step up for Christian based on the power and grip that he is familiar with in USF2000 but we will ensure he feels as comfortable as possible for the season ahead. Christian already has experience of some of the key circuits on the calendar so that will be a great help as he familiarises himself with the 2021 package.”

Bogle joins already announced driver Alex Peroni in Carlin’s Indy Lights team. Peroni joins the team from the FIA Formula FIA F3 Championship and will make his debut in America when the season kicks off at Barber Motorsports Park from 15 – 18 April.
