Trulli on the podium as Benavides secures best finish

October 25, 2021

It was a strong weekend of racing in Barcelona for Carlin's Euroformula Open team with Enzo Trulli securing a double podium while Brad Benavides took his best finish of the season at the Spanish track as he took sixth in the second race of the weekend in the final round of the 2021 Euroformula Open Championship.

With three races on offer following a hard-fought qualifying session, Trulli continued his podium scoring pace and clinched a brilliant third position in the opening race of the weekend which he followed up with a further third place in race two - bringing the rookie's total of podiums for the 2021 season up to four in total, and three on the bounce with Carlin.

Benavides, who had enjoyed a great opening lap, stormed his way through the race to finish the second race of the weekend on Sunday morning in sixth position - his best finish of the season having shown brilliant pace throughout qualifying and the opening races of the weekend.

The final race on Sunday afternoon saw the Carlin duo start from a little further down the grid however they fought hard to gain position. Trulli moved up to sixth however Benavides had a recovery race on his hands after a trip through the gravel trap sent him spiralling down the order to last place - he did however, drive brilliantly back up to 12th as the flag fell.

Trulli said of the weekend, "So it’s been a fantastic weekend, we worked really hard during free practice for a good set up going into qualifying and we managed to take a great third place. The first race was good even through we struggled a bit towards the end with the rear tyres however it was great to finish on the podium. I had a good start during race two and moved up to third place and managed to finish again on the podium for the third time in a row.
"I want to thank Trevor and the team for the opportunity, it was a pleasure to work with a great team and hope to do it again the future."
