Brad Benavides joins Carlin’s Euroformula Open team

September 3, 2021

Carlin is pleased to confirm that American-Spanish racer Brad Benavides will join the team’s Euroformula Open squad for next round in Austria. Benavides, who has been racing single seaters in Europe since the tail end of the 2018 season, will make his debut with the British team at the next round at the Red Bull Ring.

Following the start of his racing career in karting, Benavides made the move to single seat racing at the end of the 2018 season, where he classified ninth on his debut, before partaking in his first full season in the highly competitive Formula Renault Eurocup in 2019.

Unfortunately, COVID-19 put the brakes on his career progression as he was forced to sit out the entirety of the 2020 season due to the travel restrictions imposed by the pandemic. However, the American racer used the time to his advantage at home in Florida where he maintained his strict training and testing programme as well as keeping up to speed with simulator work.

Returning to the European racing scene for 2021, Benavides moved to the Formula Regional European Championship where he has enjoyed strong racing and gained experience around the iconic streets of Monte Carlo. The20-year-old can now confirm he will join Carlin for the Euroformula Open Championship round in Red Bull Ring and potentially further races in the remainder of the season.

Carlin has a wealth of experience in the Euroformula Open championship having fielded a host of talented racers including INDYCAR race winner Colton Herta in 2016. Carlin also finished as runners-up in the team standings for three consecutive seasons (2017, 2018 and 2019).

Benavides said, “I’m really excited about making the step up to Euroformula Open and with Carlin who have such a strong reputation in the junior formulas.  It’s a great car and Ican’t wait to get on track in Austria. Hopefully, if all goes well, we will have chance to compete in further rounds this season.”

Trevor Carlin, Carlin Racing Director, added, “We are thrilled that Brad will join the Euroformula Open team at Red Bull Ring. Brad has already spent a couple of days with the team including some testing so he is already working really well with the mechanics and engineers and ready to get on track in Austria.”
