Thunderhead Carlin Racing ready for Season Finale in Portugal

October 25, 2019

The 2019 European Le Mans Series will conclude this weekend in Portugal as the 4 Hours of Portimão sees the Thunderhead Carlin Racing squad sign off on their debut season.

Lining up on the grid with Jack Manchester, Harry Tincknell and Ben Barnicoat the talented trio look to return to the season in style following a break since their last outing at British track Silverstone.

After a successful test at the track earlier in the month, with Manchester behind the wheel, the team look forward to competing in the season finale this weekend. Having missed the penultimate round of the season due to a high-speed injury sustained by Manchester after brake failure at Silverstone, the British racer is thankfully back to racing fitness and ready to get behind the wheel of the Dallara P217.

Their debut season in the highly competitive series has been one of learning but solid results which has seen the team feature in the top ten despite competing against many more experienced teams. Thunderhead Carlin Racing hope to continue their strong progress during the season finale this weekend.

Returning to the cockpit Manchester said, “I am really pleased to be returning to the cockpit of the Dallara P217. I had a nasty crash at Silverstone and had to take time away from the car to make sure that the injury healed. I’ve since taken careful steps to get back in the gym and tested with the team last week as well. It was obviously horrible to have to sit out Spa when I so desperately wanted to compete, but I needed to make sure that I was 100% ready for the season finale this weekend.

“I’m really looking forward to being back behind the wheel of the car and continuing the progress that we’ve made together as a team. I’m sure we can have a great weekend together, push hard throughout and get another well-deserved strong finish.”

Tincknell said, “It’s great to be back for Portimao! I can’t believe the end of the ELMS is nearly upon us and hopefully we can bounce back from Silverstone and end the season on a high. It’s great to have Jack back race fitness and the team are raring to go! I really want to improve on our best finish of 9th at the final round and I’m sure we can do just that.”

Ben Barnicoat added, “I’m really looking forward to the season finale in Portimao! It’s been a while since we last raced but now myself and Harry have Jack back at 100% I can’t wait for the band to get back together and try our best to end the season in style. Portimao is a fun and challenging circuit, so I’m really looking forward to my first race there.”

This week has already seen the trio out testing on Wednesday with a pre-event test and with that having yielded fantastic data for the team, the Thunderhead Carlin Racing squad are fired up for the finale.
