A weekend of mixed conditions saw three conflicting races for the team. On Saturday Frederick dropped back through the order but turned his fortunes around brilliantly on Sunday with a dominant 11-second win. Nazim Azman continued his consistent run of races and secured three top-ten finishes over the course of the races on offer. Teammate Guilherme Peixoto suffered damaged during the second race of the weekend which took him out of contention however he pulled off some great overtaking moves in the final race on Sunday afternoon to move up to ninth place.
Frederick once again shone in qualifying, securing pole position for the opening race of the weekend. However his luck would dramatically turn when in the early stages he started to come under pressure and dropped down the order. Running wide to defend the position he was unable to cling on. Frederick would cross the line on lap 12 in eighth position however a flag error meant that the race ran to 13 laps, during which Frederick crashed out of contention, however his actual finishing place was rightly awarded back to him as per Motorsport UK regulations.
Frederick used Sunday as an opportunity to turn things around and secured a podium for second in the reverse grid race – claiming a fantastic handful of overtakes in the process moving up from 11th. However it was the final race of the weekend where he really proved his speed. Starting third, Frederick launched well off the line and was able to immediately take second position as his own in the wet and slippery conditions. From there he started to hunt down the race leader Kush Maini and made a successful overtake for the lead on lap four. Frederick pulled a sensational gap of over 11 seconds in the subsequent eight laps to take his third victory of the season.
Frederick said, “It was the best way to end the weekend after such a poor opening race of the weekend. We recovered brilliantly in race two. Getting a podium after starting 11th, and being really close to the race win, was good and a fantastic recovery on the whole. The last race was the best way to finish a weekend here at Donington – we got everything together, the team gave me a great car and we’ll continue to keep pushing for these strong results.”
Teammate Azman once again had a solid race weekend scoring a number of good points with tenth position in the opening race of the weekend. He continued the good progress and pushed hard through the second race to clinch seventh as his own all the while applying the pressure on Maini ahead. Azman secured his final top ten in the final race of the weekend as he rounded off a solid weekend at Donington Park.
Peixoto opened up his weekend scoreboard with 15th during race one however it was the second race of the weekend which saw the most drama for the Brazilian. Peixoto ran brilliantly in third in the opening stages however he suffered front wing damage which soon had the stewards on his case. Despite the damage he seemed to be able to keep the pace and was holding his provisional podium position, that was until the black flag was shown to the Carlin driver forcing him to pit and retire with the damage. The final race of the weekend was a far simpler affair for the Brazilian with some brilliant overtakes taking him up to ninth position.
